The big boss is coming!
Need to make a great impression.
Everyone in early. Everyone doing their part.
(Somehow overtime is available. Extra staff and extra hours.)
Clean shelves.
Polished floor.
Zero gaps.
Not an item out of place.
Keep it that way.
Manager spends the day pacing. Cheat sheet of figures in hand.
First impression is everything.
They used to say the Queen thought the world smelled of paint. For a regional manager it's Dettol.
Even HR is on the shopfloor. They don't even do that at Christmas.
Word goes round, they just left the previous shop, they'll be here soon.
Someone suggests that maybe the higher ups should see what it's really like on a daily basis, when there aren't all these people in, keeping everything pristine, then they might see how hard it is normally, maybe make some improvements - But that's not how the game is played.
Just keep tidying.
They'd better hurry up, it's nearly closing.
Wait, just look at this place.
Every rail, shelf, gondola top, dressed down, pulled forward, merchandised according to plan.
A real team effort.
Guess what, they're not coming after all.
The people here should still be proud of what they do.
| Pro-tip - They have to find something to complain about. Leave something super obvious for them to find early on. Nothing too alarming, just enough for them to have to point it out. Out of date POS is a good one. You can just throw it in the bin while reassuring them that it was an oversight and look, you've got all the up to date signage in place. |
